Abstract
Adolescent mental disorder is a global health concern, while depression is the most prevalent type of adolescent mental disorder. The government has been very responsive in the matter, asking the education system to implement regular and universal mental health checkups for the students. Such an encouraging policy paves the way to early detection, prevention, and treatment. It, however, also faces some challenges, such as the chance of having false positives and the need for stakeholders to distinguish between screening and diagnosis. Other issues include the ethical need to follow up those screened positive and avoidance of labelling those screened positive. The universal screening at schools is hence a large-scale program that needs inter-disciplinary integrations among researchers and practitioners in psychology, psychiatry, public health, and education. The presentation offers some perspectives from the angle of public health. One of the discussions is about the nature of the screening tool. Screening tools detecting mental distress developed by psychologists and psychiatrists often focus on symptoms. The screening results may hence point directly to mental disorders. For instance, currently, PHQ-9 is a well validated tool commonly used in the universal screening of depression in the school setting. This presentation discusses about the development of a screening tool basing on protective and risk factors instead of symptoms, which may have very similar positive and negative findings comparing to PHQ-9 (ROC area of about .92). It is however, may hence involve less labelling effect and ethical issues. It may also be able to detect other mental health problems. The implications will be discussed.

劉德輝教授為香港中文大學(xué)學(xué)士、加州大學(xué)伯克利分校碩士及博士、浙江大學(xué)光彪講座教授、溫州醫(yī)科大學(xué)精神科學(xué)院領(lǐng)軍人物及應(yīng)用心理學(xué)系系主任、溫州醫(yī)科大學(xué)公共精神健康中心創(chuàng)始主任、溫州醫(yī)科大學(xué)附屬康寧醫(yī)院公共精神衛(wèi)生首席科學(xué)家?,F(xiàn)亦擔(dān)任英國(guó)皇家內(nèi)科醫(yī)學(xué)院公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院院士,香港中文大學(xué)終身教授、博士生導(dǎo)師及健康行為研究中心創(chuàng)始主任,曾任該校公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院副院長(zhǎng)、中國(guó)科學(xué)院心理所客座教授及海外評(píng)審專(zhuān)家及顧問(wèn)。他是 2023國(guó)際的 Best Scientist Award及2024年 Medicine Leader 得獎(jiǎng)人,及入選Stanford University 全球 2%頂尖科學(xué)家(2022年為全中國(guó)公共衛(wèi)生排名首位)。劉教授是國(guó)際知名的行為及心理健康學(xué)專(zhuān)家,曾獲由二十多個(gè)國(guó)家分會(huì)組成的國(guó)際行為醫(yī)學(xué)學(xué)頒發(fā)杰出科學(xué)家獎(jiǎng)和國(guó)際合作獎(jiǎng)兩個(gè)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)及香港政府最佳健康促進(jìn)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)?,F(xiàn)任中華預(yù)防醫(yī)學(xué)協(xié)會(huì)行為健康分會(huì)副主任委員、 中國(guó)心理學(xué)會(huì)行為健康專(zhuān)業(yè)委員會(huì)副主任委員、中國(guó)健康促進(jìn)與教育協(xié)會(huì)心理健康教育分會(huì)常務(wù)委員及香港行為健康學(xué)會(huì)主席。另外曾任清華大學(xué)客座研究員、中山大學(xué)海外名師、澳門(mén)大學(xué)杰出學(xué)者。他是SSCI 期刊 International Journal of Mental Health主編及多本國(guó)際雜志編委。他共獲得了140多研究項(xiàng)目資助,發(fā)表了約730 篇SCI/SSCI文章(包括Lancet,BMJ),被引用超過(guò)28300次,h-index為83。
